Re: Garrett turbo on 1400
No it doesn't change anything. people turbo carberated engines all the time. I think in some cases you just run the charge pipe straight in into the top of the carb and in others you have to enclose the carb in an air tight box. you'll just have to look into it and see what you need to do. Depending on what type of carb you have.
really in a way you could use a narrow band o2 sensor to tune the carb with. take a lighter and don't light it just hold the tab down to release gas have a volt meter hooked up to the sensor and see what it reads what ever that value is will be full rich probably around 5 v I think stoich is 3.3v? stoich is 14:1 install the o2 sensor in the exhaust atleast 12 inchs back from the turbo and run the car and watch the voltmeter.when your at part throttle or idle and it shows lean then you know you need to adjust the carb add some more fuel until it reads whatever volts mean 14.1 thats safe and fuel efficiant out of boost , and if it shows rich then adjust the carb to take some fuel away
after you get idle and part throttle good start letting the car build boost watch for the voltmeter reading make sure it reads rich the whole time. But anything under 14:1 is going to show rich so you could actually be lean. the car will run good lean so don't let that fool you in this case the narrow band is only going tell you if your way off track.
anyway make sure your showing rich on the voltmeter value and stop from time to time and pull your spark plugs check to see if their a dry looking white color if they are that means your still to lean add more fuel. keep doing this until the plug look golden brown if they look wet and black then obviously you know it's rich. doing it this way would take a long time though
just buy a wideband if you can.
