You fail to mention the 1000s of people who run no inline filter and have no problems.

oil from the drivetrain is picked up by the oil pump (that screen doenst catch the small stuff), pumped into the galleys and goes right to the turbo, other galley's route some oil into the filter. at least thats how mine is, unless yours is special?

im not saying every car/turbo will have this issue. i AM saying that it COULD be an issue for some that have had failures.

i dont know if they do or dont. it is possible that the oil is filtered before it hits the galley, however, depending on your oil filter and how many microns it allows it could be left to say that the stock oil filter system may not be good enough?

im glad you havent had an issue.

oh wow, shame on me for putting dumbass in the poll option and playing around, ive seen worse in thousands of your posts

btw, im just putting up a suggestion for those that really care/wonder about oil supply quality to their turbo's, to the people that take it personal,

All the d-series Ive seen the oil pressure sensor is after the filter. I just checked a b18b and it has the sensor before the filter. So it looks like this is something only some people have to worry about.

it actually depends on the oil system, sometimes the oil is picked up through the pump and sent right to the filter then through the system, i believe the more common way is the oil is filter on the way back into the pan, either way the oil is getting filter'd

you guys that are saying that "stock" cars like DSM's dont have problems...

do a quick 30mins of research on google.

search for "in line oil filter turbo"...

there were a number of DSM sites that came up with users stating that they recomend getting inline filters and such.

some manufactures do use in line filters, and most airplane's do as well...

you do as you wish, its your car and your turbo, however, for some, it may be a wise idea to get one.

It's not dirt that is killing everones turbo's, it's china and/or too much oil pressure.

Take apart a turbo and you'll see that the oil goes over the spinning shaft to cool it, but the bearings are further to the sides. Think about the bearing clearances of an engine and why dirt is bad for that, and then take the turbo apart and find a place where any size of sludge would effect it that has already gotten through the oil pickup strainer, and the inner diameter of a -3 feedline. It was a good try mcguyver.
