Okay, I'm calling BS on this right out the gate. You have 2 "quarters" left but at a minimum 4 "quarters" of math to do? Last I checked, software engineers needed to take at least Calc 4. You were dealing with precalc so you have calc 1-4 to take. In fact I think a lot of software engineers have to take up to calc 5 or linear algebra.

Can't call yourself an engineer without having a degree in engineering. Call yourself something else. Until you have a BS from a school certified to hand out an engineering degree, you aren't an engineer.

PS: In college, they have semesters. Quarters are in high school.

you don't need a degree to work in a field... i work in software, i have for three years. that makes me....? the highest math i have to take is calc 1

having a degree doesn't "make" you something. if you work in the field thats what you are. lots and lots of people work in fields w/o degrees and with degrees in something totally irrelevant.

the college i go to is year around, and we have quarters.

loser 8)

What's your calc 4 exactly? Our calc 3 is multivariate and 3 dimensional stuff etc.

I've heard it before too, but guess what, I know quite a few people that were hired before getting out of the college, and I know 0 people that didn't get placed somewhere.

software engineer = job that will be outsourced to india

Also, I've been clean for a while now ::) Just because I don't have anything against pot-smoking, doesn't mean I do it regularly.

Calc4 is Differential Equations with some Linear Algebra.

http://www.rit.edu/~932www/ugrad_bul...s/softeng.html

This is the school that started the "software engineering" degree from a brief search. Notice the amount of math you have to take? Yeah, somehow I don't see your software engineering degree being actually a software engineering degree.

Also, you can call yourself whatever you want. In the end a piece of paper from a college has value. This coming from a person who dropped out of college. I'd have a hard time calling you a software engineer as you've been working in the field less time than it takes to get a degree. Also, every school is year round. Most decent sized schools offer around 6-7 semesters in a year.

Oh, yeah I took that, but there wasn't even a whole lot of calc just the ODE stuff. We have it so you take math237 (calc 3) and math238 (linear algebra and diff eqns) at the same time. I got a C in it, but as with all my math crap I get better at it after the fact which is unfortunate :'(

Sorry for ------- up this thread, if that's even possible.

nope, thats old news. development jobs are not being outsourced to india anymore. because those jerks are ------- stupid and they suck at it.

why don't you do a brief search on why you're such a loser?

i go to a technical school. and i went here for a reason... less BULLSHIT classes. degrees are peices of paper that can help you get your foot in the door. thats all. you will learn 1 million percent of your job on the job and not in school.

peice of paper from a college does not determine what job you can or can't do. if you do that job thats what you are. before colleges were people not what they did because they didn't have some morons who you paid thousands of dollars to say you can do it now?

you really don't need to argue this because what i'm telling you is the absolute truth. every school is different...

Don't need to. I already know the answer to that one.

Those bullshit classes are the difference between an accredited degree and an unaccredited degree. I do agree that once you get your job, you get specific job training, but college level classes are there so you can move from position to position. Getting a college degree also shows you have the ability to learn on a higher level. That is definitely something employers want more often than not.

Johnny, you want to write me a legal perscription? I have these awesome plans to build a 1 mile tall building. You want to sign off on it saying it's structurally sound? College degree absolutely determines what you can and can't do.

Also what did people do before college? On a whole, they lived shittier lives. Look back in history, and look how they lived. Now look at how we live now. You don't think that college at all facilitated in the growth of the world? You don't think without colleges we would have the medical treatment options we have now? College facilitates learning. You can go to college, get a stupid degree in nothing and it could mean nothing. You can also take classes in meaningful topics, learn a lot, and use it to be productive. It does come down to the person, but college is absolutely a tool. Devaluing college on a whole makes you look incredibly ignorant.
