Street racing vs track racing
Sup, im writing a paper for my Psych class and i wanted to use HMT as a Source of information. I want to know why some of you guys would prefer to race on the street rather then a race track as well as the other side why do you run on the track rather then the street. Whether it be drag racing or a road race type stiuation.

Re: Street racing vs track racing
I do it on the track because I've known 2 people who have died from street racing.
On the other hand, if it's out on some abandoned air stip or country road...that's not too bad.
you get time slips at the track...which is a big plus

Re: Street racing vs track racing
I like the both.
I feel a lot safer on a track (duh), and on the street I'm very cautious about when and where I do it... but I'm not against it. There's no doubt that there's side to street racing that is unpredictable, and there's why people get their panties in a bunch and get all defensive about it. Yes, people die street racing. It's something we all know, and it's something that has always happened as long as cars have been around. People also die in every other type of racing out there: Nascar, Rally (definately), Road Race, Drag, etc... you get my drift.

Re: Street racing vs track racing
I think its the rush that makes the street scene so popular. You never know if your going to get caught. They both get your adrenaline going. One the street its worrying about police or what lies ahead, where on the track you still have the worry of catching a good light, miss shifting, all that fun stuff. The street is always unpredictable, you have no idea what the guy next to you is packing, where at the track you've seen him run the the track a million times. The track it more you against yourself, and on the street i think theres alot more pride at stake. but thats just my two cents.

I used to run people in the mountains here where I live. I was the guy to beat, so people would come looking for me from all over. It was kinda a shot to the ego I guess. That and the rush. Raced guys from San Jose, Santa Cruz, even as far off as Frisco. But then out of town ********* started crashing left and right and the cops patroll all the time now. Then I lost a couple friends in an accident a few months ago and it just put out that fire. I actually pulled over last night on my way home from school to let an old POS prelude go by. Still love the track, but I think I'm done with the mountain racing. I don't drive slow, don't think I ever will, just don't let myself get pushed into racing anymore.

track is way better than the street, At the track its not about who can buy the fastest car its about who can drive the best, also you can't get in trouble for doing it,you get timeslips, don't have to drive around looking for racest there guranteed, may win money or a trophy.

Re: Street racing vs track racing
i enjoy both, and am very cautious on the street, especially since I've crashed from just daily driving, and just last week my mom got rear ended.
the reason I do prefer street over track however, is that the track is 1) an hour drive away, 2) costs like $20 (and gas there and back is another 5-10), 3) you have to wait FOREVER between runs
street racing is free, most of the good roads are near me, including a nice curvy downhill, and the wait is none
i do occassionally hit the track, just to get my times, or if there's an event I can participate in, like the High School Drags. I was my school's last hope when a senior gave me a tip and i beat my time by .4 lol

They both have their good and bad points, at the track you're in a controlled enviroment which is obviously safer. I don't really like organized "street racing" but spur of the moment stoplight drags are the best
