I work as a pricing manager for an auto parts chain and warehouse distributor in the NorthWest (Baxter Auto Parts/ Performance Warehouse for those who live around here).

I make okay money, but not nearly as much as most of my friends I graduated college with. But the hours are excellent and I get killer discounts on parts.

I am thinking of changing careers though. I want to become a mortgage broker, I have some friends who do it and make a ton of money. My step-mom is also a realtor so I have some connections within the industry. Plus, real estate is booming right now in the Portland area so there is a lot of money to be made.

I would rather work a commission based job than a salary desk job any day. I like getting paid to work hard.

I won't be satisfied until I'm making a tripple digit salary. My goal is to get there within three years.

Right now I finished my summer job, and started school. I am currently looking right now. Put out a couple of applications out but no calls yet. I think I am going to apply at Lowe's tomorrow. I heard they pay at least 9.oo/hour, and they are accepting applications.

i interned as a mortgage broker this summer, it's dope, so easy. But i reccomend you do it if you want a pretty lax job and great money.

I have heard nothing the the oposite. From what I understand there is a very high turnover rate for first year brokers (more than 70% don't make it)...

You have to go out and get your own clients and build your own business. Unless you work for a big company that supplies you with leads. But even then, you have to convert those leads (many of which aren't even good leads). Plus, most of the time companies who provide brokers with leads take a larger percentage of their commissions.

I am meeting tomorrow with the owner of a large mortgage company. I have a bunch of questions to ask him about the industry as a whole and about how to be successful in it.

I did a TON of networking when I first graduated business school and started looking for a job so I am going to go back through some of my contacts and see who I can talk with. It's a challenge finding a good job but so worth it!

I was going to say the same thing about mortgage brokers. If you are interested in similar work, find a good financial company selling home equity loans, 1st and 2nd mortgages (but maybe not purchase money), stuff like that. Even without a college degree you can make a great base pay, and killer ($3000-$5000+) monthly bonuses. Choose the compay wisely though, many are nothing but slime.

i work for a local landscaping company, been there for a little over a year now, i make salary at 11.50 an hour but i only work like 5-6 hrs a day and get paid for 8. oh yeah i forgot i also get paid vacations and holidays.

Ive been doing this for about 5 years now. I guess I make about 30-80k depending on where and what type of building that the company i work for is doing.

Commercial construction - schools, office building, freeway, parking garages. 30-50k
Industrial construciton - powerplants, cement plants, refinerys, steel mills. 40-80+k (last about 1-3yrs) then off to another job site, or another company. lots of traveling. and lots of overtime

Im currently on the comercial side.. Mind you, I hate my job! but it pays the bills.
