exhaust glowing red
So on this new heap of ---- I have, the exhaust mani is glowing red after a short 15 mile run down the road. Until it hits 4000rpms, it has NO power. In 5th gear, it has problems staying at speed.
My question, do you think it could have jumped a tooth on the cam gear? Could timing be the cause of this problem? I don't wanna spend the time pulling everything off/apart if this isn't the problem or could even be a problem.
One other thought, it has a stupid *** african rigged exhaust. Could that be the problem...way to restricted?
If it should matter, this is a stock z6 motor, on a crome stock p28 tune. I really cant wait to get this motor out of this car, but it has to last me a little longer....

Re: exhaust glowing red
I know a restrictive exhaust could cause it to get red hot, but I ran a stock exhaust on my z6 on 8psi for a month and never experienced any power issues. Just a smooth power band, also didn't have the problem with the red hot exhaust...

Re: exhaust glowing red
I'm guessing timing is off Frank or the cat is plugged. I had both happen on a few of my civics. One the cat was clogged and even after idling in my garage for like 5 minutes it was glowing cherry red and looked like ------- lava. Then on my last hatch, my stock y7 manifold hacked into a T3 manifold would glow. But then again it had header wrap on it so it was holding in all the heat. It was pretty cool looking though. :P Gotta love 14 psi on just stock 240's and a greddy bluebox. lol. That ****** lasted a long time till the y7 spun a bearing but she kept on going till I pulled it out. I just never took it over 3k though as then it would really start knocking.
