Oh its a CRX... then it should be located under the passenger side seat. Its a little blue and white actuator arm..

if someone decided to weld up their own shift linkage, that could be the problem. If they weren't careful with the length or keeping it straight it could throw things off a lil and give it a weird feel. Thats how my sol is. I thought it felt sloppy and a couple of the gears were a lil weird to shift into certain gears so I bought some new shifter bushings. Well, the old ones were fine, and i realized it was the shitty job the kid had done before me on the linkage. But if you have a lot of slop in your shifter, buy some new polyurthane ones anyway... $10-15 and it gives the shifter a much sportier feel, one of the better small purchases you can do to making your car more fun to drive
